The following business finance and angel investing event for minority business seems very promising. I don't know if it has a track record or is worth the $195 investment but I hope it does. It is a business plan competition which aims to put the winners and noteworthy in front of angel investors.
If you don't already know angel investors are usually individuals with high net worth who are willing to invest in your company with a partner or equity position. They are called angels because they are less into traditional issues like credit score, collaterial, or your personal net worth in evaluating whether or not to invest in your company. Virginia Housing and Community Development Corporation (VHCDC) continues its pioneering initiatives to facilitate the flow of capital to Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) with the announcement of the 2007 MBE Capital Call Conference, Exhibition, and Venture Forum – September 20 & 21 in Hampton, Virginia. The MBE Capital Call presents entrepreneurs with innovative and marketable business ideas the opportunity to secure capital, and other essential resources, by “Pitching” their business plans to active, accredited investors. VHCDC created the MBE Capital Call to expose and connect MBEs, particularly African-American, Hispanic, and Native American entrepreneurs, to capital (funding) to start and grow or expand their business.
